Is the cement along your ridge lines cracking and washing away?
Old cement pointing goes brittle. It cracks in the heat, lets go in storms, and you end up with bits of grey mortar in your gutters and downpipes. Once that seal breaks, rain runs straight under the ridge caps and into the roof.
Left alone, those caps slip, the leaks spread along the ridge line, and the ceiling below starts to mark. A repoint done early is a lot cheaper than fixing water damage later.
What we do when we repoint your roof
We handle the whole ridge line, not just the worst few caps. Here is what that covers.
We lift any caps that have slipped or come loose and rebed them in fresh mortar so they sit straight and solid again.
We point the caps with a flexible pointing compound that moves with the roof. It flexes instead of cracking like the old cement did.
While we are up there we swap out any cracked or broken tiles along the ridge so the whole line is watertight.
A proper repoint seals the ridge so water stays out. It extends the life of your tile roof and saves you a bigger bill down the track.
Flexible pointing comes in a full colour range and we match it to your ridge caps and tiles, so the repaired ridge blends in instead of standing out.
All the old mortar and rubble leaves with us. We sweep the roof, clear the gutters and tidy the ground, so there is nothing left to wash into your downpipes.

Roof Repointing FAQs

Rebedding is relaying the ridge caps in fresh mortar so they sit firm. Repointing is sealing the join along the top with a flexible compound. Most older roofs need both, and we do them together so the ridge line is solid and watertight.
Look for cracked or crumbling mortar along the ridge lines, caps that have slipped or come loose, bits of mortar in your gutters, or leaks that follow the ridge. If your tile roof has never been repointed and it is getting on in years, it is worth a look.
Old cement is rigid, so it cracks as the roof heats up, cools down and shifts. Flexible pointing compound moves with the roof instead of fighting it, so it holds the seal for far longer before it ever needs redoing.
No. Repointing and rebedding are for tile roofs, where the ridge caps are set in mortar. Metal roofs are sealed a different way. If you are not sure what you have got, send us a photo and we will tell you.
If the tiles are sound and only the ridge capping has failed, a repoint on its own is usually enough. If the whole roof is tired, repointing is often done as part of a restoration. We will tell you honestly which one your roof needs at the free quote.
