Hot upstairs rooms and a stuffy roof cavity?
When the roof cavity has nowhere to breathe, summer heat builds up under the tiles or metal and radiates down into the rooms below. That is why top-floor and upstairs bedrooms stay hot long after the sun goes down, and why the air conditioner runs flat out trying to keep up.
In the cooler months the same trapped air causes a different problem. Warm, moist air from the home rises into the roof space, hits the cold underside of the roof, and condenses. Left alone it shows up as musty smells, damp insulation, and mould forming on the timbers and sarking.
How We Ventilate Your Roof
David has fitted roof ventilation to tile and metal roofs for over 30 years. We match the right type and number of vents to your roof, not a one-size-fits-all fix.
Wind-driven turbines that spin to draw hot air out of the roof space. Quiet, no power needed, and a cost-effective option for most homes.
Solar or powered fans that actively pull air out, shifting far more volume than a whirlybird for larger or hotter roof spaces.
Intake vents in the eaves paired with outlets at the ridge create proper airflow, so the whole cavity flushes rather than just one spot.
Better airflow cuts winter condensation, protects your insulation and roof timbers, and clears the musty smell from the roof cavity.
Every ventilation job starts inside the roof cavity. We check insulation, existing vents and heat build-up, then recommend the type and number of vents your home actually needs, wherever you are in our service area.
Every penetration is flashed and sealed properly and each vent is tested working before we pack up. Offcuts and packaging leave with us, so all you notice is a cooler house.

Roof Ventilation FAQs
Answers to the questions we get asked most.
A whirlybird is a wind-driven turbine that spins to draw hot air out, with no power or running cost. A solar or powered vent uses a fan to actively pull air out, so it moves much more air and keeps working even when there is no breeze. Whirlybirds suit most average homes, while powered vents make sense for larger or particularly hot roof spaces.
It depends on the size and pitch of your roof, how the space is built, and how hot or stuffy it gets. A single vent rarely does much on its own. We assess your roof and recommend the right number and placement so the whole cavity actually moves air, then give you a free quote.
Yes. We fit whirlybirds, powered vents, solar vents and ridge ventilation to both tile and metal roofs. The flashing and mounting differ between the two, which is exactly why a licensed roofer should do the work so it stays weatherproof.
It does. Most roof-space condensation comes from warm, moist air getting trapped with nowhere to escape. Ventilation lets that air move out before it settles on cold surfaces, which reduces the damp, the musty smell and the mould that follows, and protects your insulation and timbers.
Yes. David will come out, look at your roof and roof space, and give you straight advice on whether ventilation will help and what it involves. Quotes are free with no obligation. Call 0406 620 352 to book a time.
